Transfer journey

As an artist with a strong focus on connecting the arts with environmental science & conservation, I knew from the start I wanted to go to UW to be surrounded by that kind of research! The Seattle Promise and Path to UW programs were the perfect combination that allowed me to make that dream come true in an affordable and manageable way, especially helping when I had to take partial medical leave during my time at Seattle Central. I’ve now been able to attend amazing classes on art and science and surround myself with students from many different majors and backgrounds, who have added dimension to my educational journey.

Tips & encouragement

Try just walking around campus to get a feel for what a student experiences on a daily basis. It helps put into perspective what day-to-day life can look really look and feel like, which is much harder to grasp through a screen. When getting started here, look at the list of clubs registered at the UW, pick a handful that seem interesting, and try to show up for at least one meeting! They’re a great place to meet other students, and I found them to be much better spaces to make friends in rather than classes where you’re trying to focus on the material you’re learning.

Favorite place(s) on campus

I love just sitting in the grass near trees on various different green spaces on campus. I recommend bringing something to sit on so you don’t get damp, though!
