Position Overview

The purpose of the Transfer Center Ambassador role is to to expand the support and peer resource community for new and continuing transfer students at the University of Washington.They will have a priority focus on supporting programming related to the UW Transfer Center goals, which includes consistently engaging with current UW students through community events, one-on-one resource connection, and regular outreach and communication to the UW transfer student community.

Job Overview and Expectation Setting

The UW Transfer Center Ambassador role was created last year to expand the support and peer resource community for new and continuing UW transfer students. This position can also occasionally support prospective UW transfer students. Some quarters will have 1-2 required events and a handful of other possible engagement opportunities and projects (examples listed further down), and some quarters will have a higher concentration of work opportunities (like September - October). Except in specific approved project situations, students should generally expect to work 5-15 hours a quarter, and may work as little as 2 and as many as 20. 

September through Autumn quarter will tend to have the most opportunities for work, with Winter and Spring being slower. September will include many Dawg Daze/Welcome events and October will be busy preparing and executing our Annual Transfer Celebration Week. We will also have at least monthly community events throughout the whole academic year.

The goal is that we have a team of 6-8 students on call throughout the year who are available to support transfer programming and share their expertise and perspectives without this feeling like an overwhelming position.
 

Student Ambassadors are required to at minimum:

• Attend 1 half day of training at the start of the academic year; typically a weekday before the start of autumn quarter
• Attend quarterly team meetings and 1:1s (availability to be determined by schedules)
• Plan and run 1-2 events per quarter.
• Complete ad hoc projects such as creating outreach materials, surveying students, developing content for our newsletter or volunteering for events
• Respond to staffing requests in a timely manner to confirm or deny availability, by dates determined by our scheduling system
• Complete required Title IX, FERPA, and other student trainings for the role

Students are welcome and encouraged to work other campus jobs alongside this one. The commitment is flexible each quarter.

Overview of Core Responsibilities

• Promote and encourage engagement with in UW communities and resources
• Plan and/or participate in the delivery of 1-2 events per quarter
• Participate as panelists in workshops, seminars, and outreach events throughout the year 
• Support UW Transfer Center outreach through outreach materials and contribution to the newsletter
• Other duties as assigned by the Transfer Team (past projects have included student surveys about programming, media creation, and communication plan support)

Terms of Employment

Employment Term: September 15th - the end of Spring quarter with optional summer hours in July for available students

Pay: Current UW student worker rate of $21.30 / hour

Time Commitment: Students will likely work between 5-15 hours a quarter depending on projects assigned and student capacity and will be determined by the start of each quarter.

Applicant Minimum Requirements

• Enrolled as a current UW transfer student
• Degree-seeking undergraduate student at the UW Seattle campus who is enrolled in at least 6 credit hours per quarter in Autumn 2026 - Spring 2027
• Be in good academic and conduct standing with the University, prior to and throughout the entire term of employment

• Knowledge of and experience in working with a diverse group of students
• Are highly motivated and have proven ability to work independently - there will be some asynchronous projects and opportunities that students can take on
• Have a demonstrated interest in and excitement to support and encourage other transfer peers on their own journeys
• Are excited about the opportunity to get to be creative about coming up with and trying event and outreach ideas for programming
• Knowledge of and experience in working with underrepresented minority students (URM), first-generation, and low income students
